Embracing Life

Abigail Tannis Porter is mother to a beautiful, incredibly headstrong, cheeky and passionate boy called Jacob who just happens to have Down syndrome.

Living and working in Hong Kong Abi found access to relevant, up to date resources, information and medical support for children with Down syndrome challenging to find. And it was from there that A Little Bit Extra was born.

The objective of A Little Bit Extra is to support, connect and enhance the development of children, adolescents and adults with Down syndrome – a condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21 – and their families as they journey through life.

LOOKING UP: BRIGHTER FUTURES, TOGETHER
Down Syndrome Symposium 2026
Thriving Through School & Early Adolescence:
Ages 6 - 12
Join us for the second in a new series of symposiums exploring and celebrating the school-age journey of individuals with Down Syndrome and their families in Hong Kong SAR. Through three panels, families will discuss their personal journey, we will gain insights from professionals on schooling, SEN support and inclusive education and we will hear from organisations that provide practical support and resources for independence and inclusion.

The GAP: Hong Kong has a range of resources for the Down syndrome community, but these are not always easy to navigate, particularly for school-age inclusion
The FIX: This symposium series seeks to build for a collaborative ecosystem. The inaugural 2025symposium addressed the early years; this second event centres on ages 6-12; the third will encompass adolescence and adulthood.
The GOAL: Our aim is to consolidate resources, information and community access in a shared, online space, so  individuals with Down syndrome and their families have a sense of purpose and belonging in their journey.

This symposium is a free event and open to everyone! Families, friends, professionals and anyone with an interest in learning more about Down syndrome.

With help and support A Little Bit Extra is planning and hoping to change lives in Hong Kong and all across Asia. With Hong Kong as our base what we achieve in this magical city will positively affect lives across the region as the charity expands.

Awareness, access to resources and support is key and our core mission.
